Take Your Faith on the Road: Episcopal Cycling Jerseys!

Bill Robison, member of Trinity, Wauwatosa and winner of last year's Bishop's Shield Award, has designed cycling jerseys featuring The Episcopal Church and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) logos. And 10% of all sales will benefit EMM! It even has a quote from Presiding Bishop Curry on the sleeve. What a great way of showing your faith as you ride all the great trails around Wisconsin (living in Milwaukee, I'm partial to the Oak Leaf Trail, but there are so many great cycling spots here!).

Read all about the origin and inspiration for the jerseys and order your own jersey on the blog post on the EMM website.

Update from the Standing Committee

Greetings to everyone in the diocese from your Standing Committee!

Since our bishop has announced his retirement in 2020, we have been laying the groundwork for our role in the common life we share as members of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee. We do not take this burden lightly. It is our goal to engage in a thorough, prayerful and thoughtful process of discernment. To that end, we are pleased to announce our unanimous selection of the Rev. Anne Hallisey as our consultant. She has guided other dioceses through search processes before and comes to us highly recommended.

Her particular skills, gifts and professional background seem to be a perfect fit for us. We will have more news to share in the not-so-distant future but for now, that first and significant step is taken care of and we couldn't be more pleased with Anne's decision to help guide and shepherd us through this process.

Aside from that, we continue to work with Bishop Miller and the Executive Council as we seek to fulfill our role in the life of the diocese.

The Rev. Scott Leannah, President

Science and Faith: Either or Both? As we discuss the journey to wellness and human flourishing in this series, we would like to begin our discussion with a conversation around science and faith. Considering the whole person, which includes the biological, psychological, social and spiritual, raises questions about interactions between science and faith. Can a person’s religious faith co-exist with science, or must the two be kept completely separate? If they can co-exist, what can faith bring to discussions around science? And how can this impact medical decisions in our daily lives? Where have you seen faith and science intersect in your own life? Join us as we discuss these questions and more.

1) Can science and faith co-exist, or must discussions of science exclude faith and vice versa?

2) Are there risks to bringing faith into discussions of science, or science into discussions of faith?

3) How do your beliefs about the relationship between science and faith impact your approach to research?

Take part in an engaging conversation between medical professionals from the Medical College of Wisconsin, including Dr. Reza Shaker, Dr. Fabrice Jotterand and Dr. Ryan Spellecy in conversation with the Rev. Geoffrey Ward about advancing health through research and faith. General sessions held in the Norvell Commons, followed by lunch in the Community Room at St. Christopher's. All Proceeds go toward scholarships for under-represented students at the Medical College.

This is the first in a series of monthly events that will take place with medical professionals and several clergy from the Diocese of Milwaukee.
