The Eucharist and Community

    Deacon Michelle Mooney shares how her questions about God made her feel unworthy to participate in the Eucharist. Moving to Milwaukee in the 1970s and getting involved in the social justice movement through the Episcopal chaplain at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she began to see God and the Eucharist in a different light. The Eucharist is now at the center of her professional and spiritual life.   

    Broad Perspective
    In one sense, Deacon Michelle's story reflects the influence and legacy of the nineteenth-century Oxford Movement. The Oxford Movement, which was a renewal of the Catholic elements of Anglicanism, emphasized the Eucharist and helped give the Milwaukee diocese many of its "high church" features.
