Magic Lantern Slides: People

Description
In 2017, John Magerus and Father Jim Braun, while going through the fifty-some boxes of archival material that had just been delivered to the DeKoven Center from the Milwaukee County storage facility, discovered a large and mostly intact collection of magic lantern slides. They also found a written narrative to go along with the slides, indicating that these slides were put together to present an early history of the Episcopal Church in Wisconsin, possibly for classroom usage. Understanding the delicate treasure they had, the collection was safely stored until the slides could be properly digitized and thus shared with others. In 2021, the Racine Heritage Museum stepped forward and digitized the collection for us. The following is a selection from this newly digitized collection that depicts some of the significant people from the early history of the church in Wisconsin.

Special thanks to Dr. John Magerus and Fr. Jim Braun. For over fifteen years, John and Jim worked together on their own time to collect, organize, and essentially revive our archives after many decades of neglect. With the archives safely housed at the DeKoven Center in Racine, we can now continue their work.

Thanks to the Racine Heritage Museum for digitizing this collection.
