Community-Building tips from multicultural conference

6/9/16 | Congregational Development | by Barbara Klauber | by Peggy Bean

The Rev. Oscar Rozo, Priest in Charge at St. Mark’s in Beaver Dam and member of the Diocesan multicultural group attended the Ecumenical conference REDIL to discuss Latino/Hispanic ministry and the church a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday at our Multicultural group meeting Oscar was sharing about the conference and how working together with other denominations as well as clergy and lay teams is vital to reaching out into the Latino Hispanic communities.    In reviewing his notes from the conference we could all see how the Five Steps outlined in connecting with the community are important to each and every church period!

1.)    We need to prepare and to know who we are, what we can provide and how we connect with our community.
2.)    Listening to the needs of the community - walking with them, where they are
3.)    Serving others - visiting and being present with them, where they are
4.)    Being with others - building relationships and being in the support network
5.)    Worshipping - what does that look like, feel like?

Great questions that can help you reach into your community and can help move you and your church into action into action.
Be sure to review the tips - they are crucial to building community!

Thanks,  Oscar for sharing your notes.
