Catechis of the Good Shepherd

    For the past several years, St. Bartholomew’s has offered the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as its Sunday School program.  Following is an article written by Shelly Buchan, Director of St. Bartholomew’s program, explaining the program and goals:

    As baptized Christians, God invites us from the time we are very young and throughout our lives to continue to learn about Jesus and the Christian faith. One way of spiritual formation for children is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). CGS, a Montessori-based religious formation program, is dedicated to life-long learning around the celebration of the Word and sacraments, with spiritual formation for the child as its focus, helping them know God personally through Scripture, prayer and Holy Eucharist.  

    We believe God knows his creation intimately and personally, long before his creation knows and acknowledges him. Since a relationship between God and his creation exists, we begin to know and hear God’s voice from a very young age. For this reason, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has a ‘first step’, inviting the children at the age of three into the atrium (classroom).  continue reading
