News from Haiti in the wake of the earthquake
January 19 update from Fr. Gracia and our partners through the Haiti Project in the village of Jeannette and St. Marc's School and Church: "Secondary and Primary buildings have sustained damage; balcony of presbytere has had major damage, I think it's gone. Eloi (St. Marc's school administrator) and he are working on assessing things along with telephone calls to Duliome Dulsix, the lay leader, and Jorel Pierre and others. It's too early to tell if the cisterns have leaks. They are all working hard to receive refugees and will be opening any building that is safe."
At this time we aware of no direct loss of life in Jeannette, but many in the community have lost family members living elsewhere, and food is in short supply throughout the country.
Communication continues to be very challenging, especially in the rural parts of Haiti. We will continue to post updates on the situation of our mission partners in Jeannette as they become available.
About the Episcopal ChurchThe Episcopal Church is made up of between two and three million worshipers in about 7500 congregations across the United States, Honduras, Taiwan, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, the British Virgin Islands and parts of Europe. We are a part of the world-wide Anglican Communion.
The Episcopal Church strives to live by the message of Christ, in which there are no outcasts and all are welcome. Walking a middle way between Roman Catholicism and Protestant traditions, we are a sacramental and worship-oriented church that promotes thoughtful debate about what God is calling us to do and be, as followers of Christ. This information was taken from the National Episcopal Church's website. For more information, see the Episcopal Church Visitor's Center. You can also visit our Links page for links to other Episcopal sites.
About the DioceseThe Diocese of Milwaukee covers the southern third of the state from Kenosha and Port Washington on Lake Michigan, to Prairie du Chien on the Mississippi River (an east-west span of 180 miles), and from Wisconsin Dells south to the Illinois border (a north-south span of 100 miles). We actively seek to grow in faith as disciples of Jesus Christ through the work of our 58 congregations, 177 clergy, and some 15,000 communicants in our service and ministries to local communities and the wider world. It is in our commitment to Prayer, Study and Action were we connect with God, each other and those we have yet to know. For more information, see our
