The Rev. Karen Buker and Mitzi Roy presented with

Bishop's Shield Awards at 2010 Diocesan Convention

At this year's diocesan convention (October 8-9 at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee) Bishop Miller recognized these two outstanding women for their many years of faithful service to their parishes, the Diocese of Milwaukee, and the wider Church.  The Rev. Karen Buker has served as deacon at St. Peter's, West Allis since the mid-1990's.  In addition to her ministries through St. Peter's, she is known to many around the diocese as 'the photographer' who never fails to memorialize important events in the life of the diocese with her beautiful still photographs. 

Mitzi Roy is a long-time member of Christ Church, Whitefish Bay, where she has served in a number of capacities, including Senior Warden.  Mitzi has served the diocese as Treasurer, President of the Standing Committee, deputy to General Convention, and co-chair of the search committee for the XI Bishop of Milwaukee.  She was active for many years in the diocese's camping ministry and, in the larger community, in the work of Sojourner Truth House and Habitat for Humanity.  The lives of both these women exemplify the admonition of St. Francis to 'preach always; use words only if necessary'.  We are indeed blessed to have them in our midst!
