The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

The MDGs are eight goals agreed to in 2000 by 189 heads of state and government -- including the United States -- from around the world that address the deepest material brokenness in the world today. The MDGs were endorsed by the 2003 General Convention and have provided structure and focus for the mission of many dioceses, congregations and individuals throughout the Episcopal Church.

The 8 Goals

• Eradicate extreme poverty & hunger
• Achieve universal primary education
• Promote gender equality and empower women
• Reduce child mortality
• Improve maternal health
• Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
• Develop a global partnership for development
• Ensure environmental sustainability
  

Commission on Global Reconciliation

The CGR is a commission appointed by the Bishop. Its responsibilities include:

• Making informed recommendations to the Bishop and Commission on Finance and Administration about the dispersement of the 0.7% funds that our Diocese has pledged toward projects that will further the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals.

• Building an accessible database of and facilitating connections among all ministries in the diocese engaged in world mission and international development

• Providing opportunities for education about and engagement with works of global reconciliation – including using our connection in the Anglican Communion to build relationships with people and communities in the developing world.

CGR Prayer

Grant us Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:

• A world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
  
• A world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them
  
• A world where different races and cultures live in harmony with mutual respect.
  
• A world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.
  

Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
