Zion, Oconomowoc to host traveling art exhibit: Come to the Table

1/19/17 | News | by Barbara Klauber

Zion Episcopal Church will be hosting a national traveling art exhibit called Come to the Table from February 3 to March 15, 2017. The exhibit is made available through CIVA | Christians in the Visual Arts, a non-profit organization founded in 1979 dedicated to exploring and nurturing the relationship between the visual arts and the Christian faith.

Come to the Table features thirty-five carefully selected works including historical pieces by Albrecht Dürer, modernist work by Jasper Johns and Sadao Watanabe, and fresh contemporary pieces created by CIVA-member artists. This work, executed in a variety of media, celebrates both the rich community gathered at the table of fellowship and the privilege of meeting with God at his table of Communion. From Abraham entertaining angels, to Christ’s Last Supper with his disciples, to the great Marriage Feast of the Lamb at the end of time, the table is a rich biblical metaphor. God’s Table is a place of welcome, justice, abundance, and worship.

An introductory lecture by CIVA Executive Director, Cameron Anderson, is scheduled for Friday, February 3, from 6-7 PM, with reception to follow. The exhibit will be open to the public on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout February, from 12 PM through 4 PM. The church will also host "Gallery Gatherings," with light refreshments, on Saturday mornings from 10-noon.

The gallery is located in the upstairs Parish Hall of Zion Episcopal Church, 135 Rockwell St., Oconomowoc, WI 53066. For more information, contact Dawn Anderson at
