Stewardship of Creation grant awarded to Haiti Project

    The Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project is the proud recipient of a $10,000 National Church Stewardship of Creation Grant.  This grant will further the work of the Clean School Green School Project at St. Marc's School, Jeannette, Paillant, Haiti led by St. Marc's graduate and agronomist, Arol Ilerand.  

    Phase II of this project includes:

    •       Expansion of gardens to produce more vegetables to supplement the school lunch program for over 550 students.  The school has land available so costs will be associated with seed purchases and fertilizer needs.
    •       Community education workshops for farmers
    •       Additional training for educators: 3 days of workshops introducing the curriculum
    •       Introduce chickens and rabbits, construct coop and rabbit pens for fertilizer and protein sources
    •       Construction of a depot to secure tools already owned by the VCCAN Green School Clean School Program and erecting an educational sign for garden
    •       Production of compost tea for sales for promote a sustainable source of funding for the future of Green School Clean School
    •       The creation of an Ecology Club for the Secondary Students
    •       Four field trips during the 2017-18 school year visit sites outside the community to highlight Haiti’s environmental challenges and introduce projects that have been successful.
