November 2016 Trip To Haiti

    Milwaukee Diocese November Trip to Jeannette, Haiti by Heidi Ropa

    Pere Lenord Quartorze, gave a sermon about resilience last week in Jeannette, Haiti -- pointing to the trees that were bend from the force of the hurricane winds, but are still alive, he reminded people of the strength of their spirit.  This theme was evident throughout the week as we shared deep sadness from loss in the community but ended the week with an evening of joy and dance.

    Alex Cain, St. Mark's Milwaukee; Tom Cramer, St. Anskar's Hartland; Gail Heiting, Holy Cross, Wisconsin Dells; Azuri Broussard and Mary Alice Eshweiler, St. Mary's Dousman; Becca Hennen and Heidi Ropa, St. Andrew's, Madison; Jon Cushman, St. Matthew's, Kenosha and Andrew Stomberg of the Diocese of North Dakota returned from a Jeannette, Haiti last week.  We worshipped together; shared sorrows together; and celebrated the resilience of the human spirit together.  Builder, Tom Cramer and Engineer, Alex Cain consulted on building projects on the school campus and led training sessions on the use of a chain saw.  Jon Cushman consulted with Heidi Ropa in a number of meetings with leaders in the community.  Azuri Broussard and Jon worked on a road improvement project as well as relationship building.  Becca Hennen and Gail Heiting worked in the Health Clinic.  Andrea Stomberg and Mary Alice Eshweiler consulted on ladies sewing projects and the Adolescent Menstrual Pad Project.  An additional member of the team, Dr. Rebecca Bardwell offered art projects in the classrooms for children to process fears they may have had a result of the Hurricane.
