In mid-September St. Martin’s welcomed Bishop Miller as he celebrated the Eucharist, preached and confirmed three new members. Then all gathered in the dining room for a typical St. Martin’s reception with a wide variety of foods to celebrate the occasion.
October 21st found the congregation celebrating a special Harvest Eucharist, with a wide array of offerings of grains, vegetables, fruits, flowers and breads brought by members. This annual service is a tradition in several of the African and Caribbean countries that were the original homes of many of our members. On November 11th, the Feast of St. Martin was celebrated with a special appearance by Severus Sulpicius, his 4th century biographer, who reminded parishioners of the events and importance of St. Martin’s life.
As we enter the final months of the year we are preparing to launch a direct mail program designed to contact all new residents in the zip code areas served by the congregation. They will receive personalized welcome letters giving information on St. Martin’s together with an invitation to worship with us. We are also planning a series of on-site visits to other Episcopal congregations in New Jersey, Georgia and Florida that are made up of Anglo, African and Caribbean members, in order to learn more about successful aspects of their ministries. In January we begin festivities in celebration of our 50th Anniversary as a congregation. A committee is planning a series of events that will take place throughout the year in honor of this important event.

The greatest blessing of all was moving into our new church building in May – an historic 1878 wood-frame structure that is the oldest church building in Mukwonago. A year ago, we couldn’t have foreseen this miracle, but as the prophet Isaiah reminds us, God’s ways are mightier than our ways. Truly, God is good. What He has done for us this year is absolutely breathtaking. Beginning in September, we began an adult formation group that meets on Sunday mornings before our worship service. This group was formed as part of a project undertaken by Resurrection’s four CDI participants. Attendance is typically around nine adults and we have been rotating the leadership so that group members each get a chance to lead the group about once every two months.
A large contingent of Resurrection members participated in the Mukwonago Crop Walk for Hunger in October. More than $4,000 was raised to support hunger relief locally and worldwide.
Resurrection Church hosted a Blessing of the Beasts in September. The event was open to the entire community. Shown here, Rev. Paula Harris prepares to bless Thomas the cat, held by Thomas’ owner Madeline Murphy. Currently, we are preparing to have an active role in Mukwonago’s “Midnight Magic” community event on Saturday, Dec. 1. We will have a religious art exhibit with noted Madison iconographer Drazen Dupor in attendance, provide free hot chocolate at an outdoor sidewalk table, host a gingerbread decorating activity for children, serve hot European-style sausage and goulash prepared by our resident Serbian chef Guta Cvetkovic (husband of our priest Rev. Paula Harris), sell craft items made by our ECW, and hold a service of Evening Prayer. As we approach 2008, we are filled with anticipation and excitement about what God has in store for our growing community. This will be a glorious occasion for us. Scott has brought great vitality and creativity to St. Michaels. He and his wife, Stephanie, have redesigned the website which can be seen at stmichaelsracine.org. He is involved with all the ministry teams and has helped restructure some and create some new ones. Our Christian Discipleship will be expanding beginning in January. In addition to our Tuesday evening class offerings, we will be extending our Sunday School program for children to a full hour and having several adult education courses as well. Scott’s addition to our staff team has given us the room to be creative, innovative and visionary. Having another clergy person on staff has also supplied more horse power to get ministry done. We are confident that significant growth will be the result of expanding our staff. St. Michael’s thanks and applauds the vision of diocese to assist all churches regardless of size to reach their greatest potential. St. Michael's is receiving $10,000 in financial assistance from Mission and Development and $12,000 from the post seminarian fund which helps our newly ordained clergy in their first two years for 2007.
